Rock chip repair is designed to keep your windshield safe. Filling in the chips keeps the glass more structurally sound in the case of a collision and limits the visibility issues caused by broken glass.
However, once your windshield glass has been broken, the only way to get a perfectly smooth surface is to replace the windshield entirely. After a rock-chip repair, a small divot will probably still be visible in the glass.
It’s important to note that not all rock chips that look repairable actually are compatible with this repair technique.
Rock chip repair is not a cosmetic repair; you may still see where the chip is located once the repair is complete. If the repaired rock chip should spread, we will apply what was paid for the rock chip repair towards a full windshield replacement of the windshield with our company. The sole purpose of a professional windshield repair is to restore the structural integrity of the glass. It is important to know the appearance after a windshield is repaired is not an indicator of whether or not the repair was successful. Since we are working with a glass that is already broken, during the repair, there is always a possibility that as the technician is pushing the resin (glue) into the chip that the chip could spread. If that should happen, we will not charge you or your insurance for the attempt but we cannot guarantee the windshield.
Once a technician has confirmed that your rock chip is repairable, he or she will begin the remediation process. In most cases, the repair process takes less than 30 minutes.
The repair process consists of the following steps.
Once the repair is complete, you can drive and care for your car normally. For example, you should be able to take your vehicle to a car wash the same day as a rock-chip repair without risking further damage.
Ensure you've explored your insurance coverage for chip repairs. Many insurance providers offer comprehensive coverage, meaning you won't have to pay a cent for the entire repair process. In some cases, you might be required to pay upfront for a rock-chip repair service and then submit a claim for reimbursement from your insurance provider.
Not all insurance policies cover the cost. If your insurance does not cover it, our pricing is: $85 for mobile service, $65 for in-shop repairs, with an additional $45 for each additional repair on the same vehicle.
